UPG Standard Mini multi-hole bowl — 12–14 g pack, snug Lotus I+ fit for longer, cleaner sessions
What it is, why it helps, how it works: This is the Mini version of the classic UPG Russian Standard bowl — a small, multi-hole clay head that spreads heat evenly across a shallow 12–14 g pack. The multiple base holes keep airflow smooth and help stop syrup from leaking into the stem. It pairs tightly with the Kaloud Lotus I+ heat manager (not the I+3), or runs beautifully on firm foil for clean flavour and steady clouds.
Handcrafted in Russia from dense white stoneware, the UPG Mini warms quickly yet holds heat predictably. Its rim geometry closely matches Lotus I+ bases, so you get a tidy, secure sit and a forgiving heat curve with 26 mm coconut cubes. It’s a reliable daily driver for compact loads, clear flavour and an easy draw.
What sets it apart
- Mini load, maxi control: 12–14 g capacity gives flavour clarity with less heat soak, ideal for modern blonde blends.
- Smoother draw: Uniform multi-hole floor maintains consistent airflow and resists syrup leaks into the stem.
- Lotus I+ synergy: Bowl opening and rim height closely fit Kaloud Lotus I+ for stable, efficient heat management.
- Session stamina: Comfortably 60–90 min when paired with 26 mm cubes and sensible rotation/venting.
- Crafted stoneware: White, heat-stable clay body balances quick warm-up with steady heat retention.
Fit & compatibility
- Heat managers: Close fit with Kaloud Lotus I+ (see Lotus I+). Not recommended for Lotus I+3 due to its wider, heavier base.
- Coals: 2–3 × 26 mm coconut cubes; start with 2 on foil or I+, add/rotate as needed (Shaman 26 mm pairs well).
- Setups: Tight foil, Lotus I+, hot screens and Provost-style caps all work within normal heat ranges.
How to dial it in
- Pack: Fluff to just below the rim; avoid pressing into the holes. Leave a thin heat buffer.
- Foil: Firm, even tension; start 2 cubes edge-to-edge, rotate every 6–8 min; add a 3rd if clouds thin.
- Lotus I+: Pre-heat 2 cubes; lid closed for 3–4 min, then crack vents to balance heat and flavour.
Craft & performance
Built for a steady, forgiving heat curve with clean flavour. The bowl ramps gently into dense clouds, purges predictably and recovers quickly after brief heat spikes. The multi-hole floor keeps the draw open and consistent across the session.
Care & upkeep
- Let the bowl cool naturally before rinsing; avoid thermal shock.
- Rinse warm and brush; skip harsh chemicals. Dry fully before next use.
Quick fixes
| Issue | Solution |
|---|---|
| Harsh early pulls | Back off heat for 10–15 sec, keep coals to the edge, crack I+ vents. |
| Thin clouds | Ensure coals are fully lit; add a 3rd 26 mm cube after ~5 min if needed. |
| Fast top browning | Loosen the pack slightly; increase foil tension; rotate coals more often. |
| Air leaks | Reseat grommet; check base and hose seals; replace worn gaskets. |

FAQ
- Mini vs Big UPG? Mini runs a 12–14 g load for flavour clarity and efficiency; Big UPG takes a larger pack and suits longer, heavier sessions.
- Does Lotus I+3 fit? We don’t recommend it — I+3’s wider/stainless base sits better on bowls with ~75 mm inner rims. Choose the Lotus I+ for the Mini.
- Standard vs Phunnel? Standard (multi-hole) keeps airflow open and draw classic; phunnel (one-hole spire) traps syrup and suits wetter mixes. Both can run HMDs.
