What are Shisha Base Colours?

Shisha base colours are additives you mix into your base water to give it colour, sparkle, or both. A few drops of liquid or a half teaspoon of powder turns clear water into pastel pink, electric blue, or glittering gold — whatever suits the session.

They're purely cosmetic. The colour doesn't travel up into the smoke, doesn't change the flavour, and has no effect on the draw. What it changes is how the base looks while the water bubbles — and how the shisha photographs on the table.

How to use base water colour

Fill your shisha base with water as usual, then add a small amount of powder or a few drops of liquid and stir. Start light and build up until you reach the shade you want. When you are done, tip the water out and rinse the base clean, ready for the next colour.

Do shisha base colours affect the flavour or the smoke?

No. The colour and sparkle stay in the water - they don't travel up the stem into the smoke, don't change the flavour, and don't affect the draw. It's a purely cosmetic addition. If you covered the base with a towel, the session would play out exactly the same as with plain water.

What's the difference between Candy and Sparkle?

Candy is a liquid concentrate that gives clean, consistent pastel tones - soft pinks, blues, greens. Sparkle is a powder that creates a metallic, glittery effect swirling in the water as you pull. Candy for photo-ready pastels; Sparkle for dynamic movement and shimmer. They can be mixed together.

How much should I add to the base?

Start small. Half a teaspoon of Sparkle powder, or a few drops of Candy liquid, is usually enough for a standard base. Mix vigorously - shake or swirl the base hard - so the colour or powder distributes evenly. Add more a little at a time if the effect isn't strong enough.

Are they safe to use?

Xschischa lists their products as food-safe and free of harmful substances. They're designed specifically for hookah base water - not generic glitter or food dye - so they rinse cleanly and don't damage glass or silicone. Keep powder and concentrate away from your eyes, and follow the brand's usage instructions.

Do they work in coloured glass bases?

They work best with clear glass bases, where the colour and sparkle are fully visible. In tinted or dark bases the effect is muted - the base colour overpowers whatever you add. If your hookah has a coloured base, Candy's pastels tend to show better than Sparkle's shimmer.

How do I clean the base after using them?

Rinse the base right after the session - don't let residue dry inside. Warm water and a soft base brush handle most cleanup. If sparkle powder has settled and dried, a drop of dish soap and a longer soak loosens it. Stubborn residue is much easier to avoid than remove, so rinse early.
