What do I need besides the pipe, bowl, and coals?

At minimum: three grommets (base, bowl, hose), a pair of tongs to handle lit coals, and a way to light natural coconut coals — either an electric burner or a gas stove-top burner. A small metal coal holder or basket makes transferring hot coals from the burner to the bowl safer and easier.

How often should I replace my grommets?

Replace any grommet that's cracked, flattened, or no longer sealing cleanly. Rubber grommets harden and lose their seal over time; silicone grommets last longer but still need replacing if they tear. A wobbly bowl or a base that keeps slipping is usually a grommet problem, not a pipe problem.

Are hookah grommets a universal size?

Electric is easier and safer for regular home use — plug in, place, wait. Gas stove-top burners are faster and more portable, which suits travel or outdoor sessions, but they need ventilation and careful handling. For a single home setup, an electric 1000W coil burner covers most needs.

Do brand-name grommets and burners actually perform better?
