Why This Shisha Base

• Mother-of-pearl belly panel: genuine shell inlay set behind the clear glass — natural blue-silver iridescence that shifts under warm room lighting, with every fragment cut and placed by hand in Cairo.
• Hand-painted monochrome mosaic: three enamel bands at shoulder, upper belly, and foot in a black-and-white diamond-and-checker motif — kiln-set, so the colour won't lift during cleaning.
• Cairo hand-work, unique by nature: every Sadaf is individually enamelled and inlaid. Small asymmetries in mosaic placement, the occasional blue accent tile slipping into the black run from the workshop's mosaic stock, and faint bubbles or seam marks in the hand-blown glass are signatures of the process — not defects. If you want factory-identical, this isn't that.
• KM Large 45mm neck: fits the full-size Khalil Mamoon stem range with a large base grommet — no shims, no tape, no improvisation.
• ~1.3 L water capacity: enough volume to cool the pull and keep heat even through longer sessions without constant topping up.
• Hand-blown thick glass: substantial weight gives tall stems a planted stance — the base itself holds around 1 kg before you add water.

Fit & Compatibility

Fits full-size Khalil Mamoon stems that use the KM Large (~45 mm) neck opening with a large base grommet. Check your current grommet size before ordering — KM Mini, Mini Beast, and some smaller KM models use a narrower neck and won't seal correctly on this base. Not compatible with Russian plug-style or threaded modern stems.

How to Use It

• Insert the large KM base grommet into the neck of the vase, pushing it flush.
• Lightly dampen the grommet with water for an easier seal.
• Lower your stem through the grommet and rotate as you seat it — the down-spout should sit 15–20 mm below the water line.
• Fill the base with water before the stem is fully seated, not after — it's easier to judge the level.
• If you hear air on your first pull, re-seat the stem or replace the grommet.

Care & Maintenance

• Rinse with warm — not hot — water after every session; sudden temperature changes can stress hand-blown glass.
• Use a soft flexible bottle-brush for the interior. Avoid anything abrasive on the enamel panels.
• No bleach, citrus cleaners, or dishwasher. The enamel and shell inlay are kiln-set, but sustained chemical exposure will dull them over time.
• Add water before ice when chilling the session — tempers the glass and reduces thermal shock risk.
• Store upright on a flat, stable surface when not in use.

Quick Fixes

• Leaking at the neck? Re-seat the grommet or step up to a fresh KM Large grommet — tired grommets go hard and lose their seal.
• Stem wobble? Check the grommet is fully seated on both the stem side and the neck side; uneven insertion is the usual culprit.
• Harsh draw? Raise your water line by 5 mm and purge fully between pulls.

FAQ

My base has a blue tile mixed in with the black — is this wrong?

No — this is normal workshop variation. The Black run is hand-laid from Cairo's mosaic stock, and the odd blue accent tile finds its way in from time to time. Hand-blown glass will also carry small bubbles, faint seam marks, and slight asymmetries in the enamel work. None of this is a defect; it's the signature of a piece made by hand. We only replace units that arrive structurally compromised — cracks, chips, or leaks.

Will this fit my Khalil Mamoon stem?

It's made for the full-size KM range with the 45 mm (KM Large) neck and a large base grommet. If you're on a Mini Beast, KM Mini, or any narrow-neck KM model, this won't seal — you'll need the matching smaller base.

Can I run ice in this base?

Yes — add water first, then ice, and avoid pouring hot liquid against the glass. The thickness handles chilled pulls well; what you want to avoid is thermal shock in either direction.

How is this different from the standard Sadaf base?

The Premium run features more elaborate hand-enamelling across all three banding zones and a larger, more refined mother-of-pearl panel on the belly. Same Cairo workshop, higher grade of detailing.
