Cerberus Coco returns in its second generation, and the headline change is heat - Gen 2 runs hotter than the original formula, giving you more headroom on dense bowls and darker leaf. Same 26 mm cube, same 100% coconut shell, now in a retail box built for the shelf.

Cerberus Coco Gen 2 26mm Coconut Charcoal for Hotter, Fuller Sessions

What Sets It Apart

  • Gen 2 runs hotter than the original. The reformulated cube sits in the medium-high heat band, which suits dense packs, larger bowls and tobaccos that need to be pushed.
  • High-density coconut shell formula. Pressed to hold its shape through a session rather than crumbling early on the foil or inside a mesh basket.
  • 26 mm cube - the universal size. It sits flat on foil, stacks cleanly inside heat management devices and gives you predictable heat placement across any bowl profile.
  • 100% coconut shell. No chemical accelerants in the formula, so nothing competes with the flavour coming off your bowl.
  • Low ash, clean burn. Less ash falling through to your tray means airflow through the bowl stays open for longer between coal rotations.

Fit & Compatibility

Cerberus Coco lists three setups on the box, and the 26 mm cube is built for all of them:

  • Direct foil - cubes sit flat on a pierced foil surface for traditional heat management.
  • Mesh HMD - the cube geometry stacks neatly inside basket-style devices.
  • Kaloud-style HMD - sized for the enclosed lid format used by Kaloud Lotus and similar devices.

How to Use It

  • Light your cubes on an approved electric or gas charcoal burner only. Never use lighter fluid to assist ignition.
  • Use medium heat on ignition. Rushing the coal on high heat is what causes cubes to crack.
  • Ignite in a well-ventilated open area, never indoors and never near flammable materials.
  • Only transfer charcoal to your bowl once it is completely lit - every face glowing, with a light grey ash coat forming.
  • Move lit charcoal with metal tongs. Never handle it by hand.
  • Never leave burning charcoal unattended, and keep it out of reach of children and pets.

Craft & Build Quality

These are pressed from coconut shell alone - a waste-stream material that carbonises dense and burns clean, which is why it displaced quick-light charcoal in serious hookah use. The high-density press is the part that matters in the hand: the cube edges stay sharp, the faces stay square, and the block holds together under tongs instead of shedding into your tray. Gen 2 keeps that structure while lifting the heat output.

Care & Maintenance

  • Store in a cool, dry place. Moisture is the enemy of coconut charcoal - damp cubes light unevenly and are far more likely to crack.
  • Once opened, keep the box closed or decant the remainder into an airtight container.
  • Keep well away from heat sources, direct sunlight and anything flammable.
  • Let spent coals cool completely before disposal.

Quick Fixes

  • Cubes cracking on the burner. You are lighting too hot. Drop to a medium setting and give them the extra couple of minutes - the packaging calls this out for a reason.
  • Harsh or thin first draws. The coal went on before it was fully lit. Return it to the burner until every face is glowing, then transfer.
  • Heat fading mid-session. Tap each cube gently with your tongs over the tray to shed the ash jacket, then reposition. Ash is insulation.

FAQ

What is different about Gen 2?

Gen 2 runs hotter than the original Cerberus Coco formula. It is the same 26 mm coconut shell cube, reformulated for higher heat output, and it now ships in printed retail boxes rather than plain packaging.

Will these fit a Kaloud Lotus or a mesh heat management device?

Yes. Cerberus lists direct foil, mesh HMDs and Kaloud-style devices as the intended setups on the packaging, and the 26 mm cube is the standard size those devices are built around.

Can I light these on a gas stove?

Cerberus specifies approved electric or gas burners only - so a purpose-built charcoal burner, not an open flame. Use medium heat on ignition to avoid cracking, and never use lighter fluid.

Are these suitable for someone who runs a hot bowl?

That is exactly who Gen 2 is aimed at. The higher heat output gives you more room on dense packs and larger bowls than the original formula did.
